Aging changes around the eyes including sagging upper eyelids and puffy lower lid bags can cause a tired look.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The operative technique includes removal of excess upper lid skin, fat and muscle and either removal or repositioning of the lower lid fat. This operation is frequently combined with a brow lift, C02 laser resurfacing and /or facelift. Time 2-4 hrs.

Location

Outpatient, office, local anesthesia and sedation

Trade Offs

There is mild, temporary surgical discomfort, bruising, and swelling rarely there is temporary difficulty fully closing the eyelids. Scars are carefully placed and are rarely a concern.

Risks

Although uncommon, problems may include infection, bleeding, dry eyes, minor asymmetries, and temporary double or blurred the vision, or whiteheads. Additional surgery although rare is sometimes required when there’s a downward shift of lower lids. Extremely rare is risk of blindness.

Recovery

Our patients are instructed in the use of cool compresses for the first 48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. Most patients return to work 1 week following surgery and to their normal exercise routine at 4 weeks.
